Transition to Primary School
In consultation with our local primary schools we have identified skills that are important for children continuing their learning at primary school. They are:
- Being able to care for themselves and their belongings. This includes things such as independent toileting, dressing themselves, blowing their nose, and packing their bags.
- Being able to get along with others. Being kind, able to play with other children, and respecting others.
- Being able to be part of a group. This involves being able to listen and follow instructions, taking part in group mat times, and working co-operatively with others.
- Having lots of opportunities to develop oral language skills. This is the crucial foundation for reading and writing. Oral language is developed through conversations, reading stories, and lots of talk, talk, talk!
